Westway Trust announce an International Artist Bursary supporting a local artist to travel to Morocco

At Westway Trust our mission is to facilitate positive change in the social, economic, personal and environmental well-being of our community. This involves all our work, across a range of areas and themes, and we recognise the importance of art and culture within this. Our International Artist Bursary supports artists to engage with new environments and enables creative exploration beyond the local context.

Applications are now open for the 2025 International Artist Bursary, offering artists the opportunity to explore, create and connect in Morocco. This bursary provides funding for a return flight, accommodation, and other living expenses for the artist. This year, the itinerary for the trip will be co-produced alongside the artist, given them the opportunity to shape the experience in line with their creative vision.

The opportunity is open for North Kensington artists aged 18 and above, working in any visual or expressive medium. Participants will have a chance to develop professional knowledge and international connections that enhance their careers through future collaborations and other opportunities.

We will ask the successful applicant to record a journal in whatever format they choose, and to include a video diary of their time in Morocco, reflecting on their experiences there and how these might inform their future work in North Kensington.

You will need to be resilient and resourceful; your time there can be challenging and requires reserves of confidence, ingenuity and self-sufficiency, but this will be a fantastic experience of discovery and inspiration.

Practising artists are invited to submit an Expression of Interest, to artsandculture@westway.org by no later than 11:59 pm, 07 April 2025 (late applications will not be considered). You must have an established body of work as evidenced by your portfolio, and a demonstrable commitment to enhancing your community. You must either be a resident in North Kensington or work/spend a considerable amount of time here – this is about your imprint on the community as much as your postcode! You must have a valid passport to apply for the bursary. The exact dates and duration of the trip will be flexible and determined with the artist to align with their creative plans.

Please complete the form linked on this page or alternatively download the International Artist Bursary Form and return it to our reception (1 Thorpe close, W10 5XL). The bursary will be awarded by a community panel who will first check all applications to make sure they meet the criteria. The panel will then shortlist applicants, and a name will be selected at random at the upcoming Bay 57 Showcase which will run between 7 – 20 April 2025. Further details will be shared with all applicants.
