In early 2018, after allegations of institutional racism were made over a number of years, we commissioned an independent investigation, and committed to an open and transparent review of our practices, both past and present.

The Tutu Foundation UK, an organisation with a track record of working to transform lives and communities through reconciliation, was appointed and began work gathering evidence in July 2018.

They have since interviewed and received depositions from a range of members of the community, current and former staff and Trustees, and other stakeholders.

The independent Tutu Review into the allegations is due to be published in September. It has been guided by a Community Advisory Group (CAG) comprised of members of the community, senior local stakeholders and representatives of Westway Trust. The report will include conclusions and recommendations.

Westway and the CAG have planned a schedule for publishing and publicising the results of the report, and we ask you to keep a look out for opportunities to receive a copy or find out about the headline information. We will be getting in touch with stakeholders in different ways to let you know more about the report and the next steps in this journey of change for Westway.
