The official launch of the Thorpe Close pop-up shopping units - now known as Podobello - took place on Friday May 31 with a bumper day of celebrations and festivities.
Crowds of shoppers, inquisitive locals, young people and many more popped down to sample the many delights on offer and explore the shops that have taken up residence in these pods “which are designed to support fledgling local businesses by offering short and flexible tenancies at reasonable prices."
On this special occasion the local Westway Sports and Fitness gym organised fitness challenges, Kids on the Green brought some pop-up DJ vibes and hula hooping, and there was even a make-your-own smoothie fitness bike.
Food and drink was provided by Icey Creams “purveyors of Thai-style rolled ice cream“ and various acolytes of the Portobello Vegan Night Market, including the amazing Rainbow Creations,Marlis Kitchen and more.
Portobello Radio broadcast live from the venue and the whole occasion had a party feel that helped the incumbent retailers show their wares current tenants include Angelics vintage clothing, Body Souffle's skin and body products, LA's Beautie mani- and pedicures, handmade clothing from Nigerian Diasporan, and Giorgo's sustainable and bespoke swimwear.
