Sketching around North Kensington

Taking a walk around North Kensington, you will use drawing to heighten awareness of your surroundings and as a way of seeing the community anew. Making rapid sketches, you will develop a rich record of your experiences, which will be discussed and reflected on with the group. 

What topics will you cover 

  • experiment with different approaches to sketching 
  • recording fast moving subject matter 
  • building on your observational skills 
  • look at the surrounding more closely and by doing so become more engaged with your own experience 

By the end of this course, you should be able to 

  • Improve rapid sketching skills 
  • Bring awareness to the daily life of North Kensington 
  • Learn how to select and edit subject matter  
  • Improve observational drawing skills 

How will I be taught? What kind of activities will I be doing? 

Demonstration and practical application. One to one and group discussion  

What will I need to bring? Where can I get this? What do we provide? 

Basic materials will be provided: pencils, sharpeners and rubbers  

You will need to bring a hardbacked sketchbook (A5 min or A4 max) and may like to bring additional drawing materials such as favourite pens, pencils or coloured crayons 

Will I get feedback?  

You will get individual and group feedback throughout the course, and at the end, you will have the opportunity to discuss each other’s work. 

When I have finished, what course can I do next? 

There will be other Art & Design courses starting in the new academic year. Your tutor will advise on these
