Tap into your artistic talents through a series of fun practical exercises that will help you start drawing, painting, looking at art, responding to the world around you and working with your imagination and ideas.

What topics will you cover  

  • How to start drawing and painting 
  • How to work with subjects and themes to trigger new ideas and creative thinking 
  • How to look at art then record and make your own responses 
  • How to develop your creativity further 

Materials and processes include: 
Collage, mixed media, mark making in pastel, pencil, paint, photography, monoprint, stencilling and texture. 
Contextual exploration of other artists’ techniques. 

By the end of this course, you should be able to 

  • Employ a broad range of 2D creative techniques in a variety of media 
  • Record and develop your own creative ideas 
  • Identify ways in which to take your creativity further 

How will I be taught? What kind of activities will I be doing? 

Practical demonstrations, working in small groups and individually  

What will I need to bring? Where can I get this? What do we provide? 

Basic materials and equipment will be provided: Soft Pastels, Acrylic paint, Magazines, craft knifes or Stanley knifes 

You are welcome to use any other art materials you may already have such as oil pastels, acrylic paint and coloured paper. Camera or phone 

Will I get feedback?  

You will get individual and group feedback throughout the course, and at the end, you will have the opportunity to discuss each other’s designs and work.
