What is the course about? 

This course will help your English for everyday life and work.  

You will develop your speaking and listening and will practise asking and answering questions using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms.  

You will talk about everyday life in the present, past, future and in general.  

You will practise describing and comparing objects and pictures.  

You will also practise listening for details in short conversations and recordings about everyday topics.  

Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course? 

Yes, you will need to do a pre-course assessment to establish your level of English before enrolling onto the course  

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications? 

This is an Entry 2 – 3 course. This course is for people new to learning English but who are not complete beginners.  

This course is good for you if you can already ask and answer some questions on personal information and follow simple instructions 

What topics does the course cover? 

You will develop the following language:  

  • Asking and answering everyday questions using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms.  
  • Talking about everyday topics using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms.  
  • Describing and comparing objects and pictures.  
  • Listening for details in short conversations and recordings about everyday topics. 

How will I be taught and assessed? Will there be any work outside the class? 

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment with an emphasis on your discovering how to do and complete tasks, with guidance from the tutor.  

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment. The tutor will help you discover rules and features of English.  

You will work on your own and with other students on different tasks. 

 You will learn in a step by step manner so you can complete challenging tasks in enjoyable and relaxing ways. Your tutor will also work with you individually so you know how to improve and how to work in a way that improves your learning. 

You will need to do work outside the classroom 

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get? 

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts. 

To join the online session you will need: 

  • Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.  
  • A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone can be used if you don’t have a computer but please note the experience may be less optimal. 
    Earphones/headphones/speakers. 

Your tutor will update you on what will be accessible via your phone or computer. 

By the end of the course what should I be able to do? 

  • Use your English to do everyday tasks such as shopping, travelling, talking to friends and work colleagues about interesting topics.  
  • Ask and answer everyday questions using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms.  
  • Talk and write about everyday topics using present simple, present continuous, past simple and future forms.  
  • Describe and compare objects and pictures. 
  • Listen for details in short conversations and recordings about everyday topics.
