You will learn new techniques on the ukulele, and new songs, chord theory and split strokes.

This course is ideal if you have attended the beginner’s course.

Course description 

Develop your ukulele technique, explore the chord theory, and learn how to apply these to your playing 

Please bring your own ukulele or let us know if you need to borrow one (details below) 

Course content: 

You will learn new techniques on the ukulele, and new songs, chord theory and split strokes. Perhaps we can persuade you to perform as a group at the end of the course? 

Learning objectives 

By the end of the course you should be able to:  

  • play new chord patterns 
  • improve your picking technique 
  • learn split strokes 
  • apply this knowledge to tunes we will learn on the course, and further tunes of your choice 

How will I be taught? What kind of activities will I be doing? 

  • You will learn songs and playing techniques in a group.  
  • The tutor will give instruction, advice, and practical demonstrations of the technique taught in each session. 
  • You will understand the various processes and techniques needed to play the ukulele 
  • You will be asked to explore strumming patterns and chord changes 
  • Your tutor will give group and individual feedback, and you will be encouraged to share your work and your views with the rest of the group 

What will I need to bring? Where can I get this? What do we provide? 

You will need to have a ukulele!   

You can find these from around £30/£40 upwards. Portobello Music in All Saints Rd stock some good ukuleles, and will do a 15% discount for all on the course. 

 

We will provide chord charts, song sheets, and strumming pattern sheets.  

 

There will be a couple of ukulele’s to borrow if needed  

 

Will I get feedback? What could I do next? 

 

You’ll receive friendly feedback from your tutor throughout.  

 

Students will develop further skills and they may be able to develop further outside of the class for further study.
