Celebrations and Events Grant – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Apply for a Celebrations and Events Grant

Who can apply for this grant?

Eligible applicants include:

  • Community organisations
  • Registered charities
  • Registered Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs)
  • Registered Community Interest Companies (CICs)
  • Community groups with a written constitution or governing document (e.g. articles of association)
  • Your organisation must operate within the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC), ideally with a focus on North Kensington.

What types of projects or events will be funded?

We fund community celebrations and events with meaningful public engagement. This can include anything from cultural festivals and performances to workshops and exhibitions, as long as there is a clear benefit to the North Kensington community.

We prioritise projects aligned with one or more of Westway Trust’s six focus areas:

  • Reducing isolation
  • Safe places for young people
  • Encouraging economic participation
  • The creative economy, arts and culture
  • Place and environment
  • Exercise and recreation

How much funding can I apply for?

You can apply for any amount up to £2,500. If you are applying for the maximum, you must clearly demonstrate a higher level of impact and may be asked to show alternative sources of funding. Based on demand, larger grant requests may be offered partial funding.

Can I apply if I’ve already received a grant from Westway Trust?

Yes, but if you haven’t submitted your required Impact Assessment Form from a previous grant, your application may be affected or declined.

Can I apply for funding for religious celebrations or cultural festivities?

Yes. We welcome applications for religious celebrations, cultural festivals, and community festivities, as long as they are inclusive, accessible, and demonstrate benefit to the wider North Kensington community. For example, events celebrating Eid, Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, Carnival, Black History Month, or other important community dates are all eligible.

Please check the application periods to ensure your event falls within the correct funding round.

Where does the event need to take place?

Physical events must take place within North Kensington, ideally in one of these five wards:

  • Dalgarno
  • Colville
  • Notting Dale
  • St Helen’s
  • Golborne

Events elsewhere in RBKC will be considered if the applicant can demonstrate strong impact on North Kensington communities.

What happens if our event is cancelled or changed?

If your event or project is cancelled, postponed, or significantly changed from what was described in your application, you may be required to return the full amount of funding.

Can we hold our event on the Westway estate?

Yes, but:

  • You must apply for a licence for the space before funding is released
  • Allow at least six weeks for the licence process
  • If you are not granted a licence, you must provide evidence of permission to hold the event elsewhere

Is equipment available to support our event?

Yes. You can request a loan of equipment for your event. Complete the equipment loan form on the Westway website and you’ll receive a response within 2 working days.

What kind of reporting is required if we are successful?

You’ll be asked to complete a short impact survey after your event. There is no lengthy report required.

Will existing relationships with Westway Trust affect funding decisions?

No. Funding decisions are based solely on the quality and impact of the application, not existing relationships.

How do I apply?

  • Complete the online application form.
  • Provide evidence that your organisation is a non-profit with a presence in RBKC.
  • Make sure your application is submitted by the published deadline.
