Winter Tree Light Gathering

Portobello Green is set to sparkle with light and creativity as we host our annual Winter Tree Light Gathering. Join us for this free event, where you can come together with the rest of the community for an evening of winter-time magic.

This year’s celebration will be filled with festive energy, complete with performances from the Portobello Live Choir, market stalls and local shops, warm food and £1 festive ice creams from Kensington Gardens Chocolateries. A community-led Gift and Warmth Giveaway, delivered by The Space and GarmHub, will offer warm clothes, wellbeing items and small gifts.

The highlight of the evening will be the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5.30pm, when the green will glow with lights, song and shared celebration. Visitors can also experience the newly installed festoon lighting route connecting the PODs, Thorpe Close and Portobello Green.

The event will showcase the Winter Pillars Art Trail, created by artist Brian Okello in collaboration with two young people mentored by Christian Hill. Twelve pillars along Thorpe Close and outside Portobello Green Arcade will be painted with festive imagery. The project showcases the imagination of local young people and their artwork will become part of the Westway Community Archive.

Free Admission.

Community Partners include: Everyone Active, Christian Hill, Brian Okello, Kaiso’s Street Eats, Kensington Gardens Tea & Chocolaterie, Podobello, Portobello Live Choir, The Regarm Projects, The Space & More.

Pillar designs by Brian Okello aka bambookidd.
