What is the course about?

Learn the skills to work confidently with base metals such as copper, and begin your journey of harnessing your creative process, designing and producing your own jewellery – make gifts for family and friends! Learn about the cultural history and meaning behind certain types of jewellery and their design.

What topics will you cover?

2D and 3D sketches and drawing.

Piercing – sawblade techniques, wire wrapping techniques.

Adding texture to metal.

Smoothing and filing.

Ear hooks and beading.

By the end of the course you will: 

Be able to sketch creative designs for jewellery.

Be able to use tools safely and efficiently.

Produce up to 3 items of wearable jewellery.

Be able to use polishing and finishing techniques.

Understand the cultural significance behind types of jewellery.

How will I be taught? What kind of activities will I be doing? 

Practical sessions and hands-on interactivity. Tactile learning through demonstration, and discussion. 

What will I need to bring? Where can I get this? What do we provide? 

We will provide tools and materials. Bring your curiosity and creativity! 

Will I get feedback? What could I do next? 

Feedback will be given throughout the sessions. You could consider an accredited jewellery class, and may wish to display your work for exhibition or even sale!

Fees exemption applies if you are in receipt of state benefits, on a low income (under £27,000.07 per year) and have residential status.
