Corporate Volunteering

Corporate volunteers working onsite

Creating healthier teams, thriving communities, and greener urban areas — one volunteering day at a time.

If you are looking for activity to support your corporate social responsibility program or have corporate volunteering days, gardening at the Westway Trust is the perfect option. We have a programme of projects between April and October as well as many different gardens and green spaces to maintain.

Our Corporate Volunteering Days offer a unique opportunity for businesses to combine hands-on team-building with environmental impact.

Your employees will spend a day or half a day getting stuck into activities like wildflower lawn planting and pollinator surveying, improving biodiversity in one of the UK’s most nature depleted urban areas.

Whether you’re looking to strengthen team bonds, enhance employee wellbeing or demonstrate leadership in sustainability and community engagement, Postcode Gardeners offer a meaningful, measurable way to meet your ESG goals.

With flexible packages, streamlined invoicing, and compelling impact reporting, we make it easy for you to create lasting change.

We cater for all levels of ability and no previous gardening experience is needed. You can come for a full or a half day, and we’ll provide expert facilitators, tools, materials, plants, PPE and refreshments. You’ll get a full colour report with photos to commemorate your day.

What your teams will be doing

  • Planting shrubs and perennial plants – Getting their hands in the soil by planting native perennial plants (plants that live for several years) to enhance local biodiversity.
  • Planting and maintaining wildflower lawns that attract bees, butterflies, and other insects.
  • Pollinator surveys and bio-blitzes – Take part in citizen science by conducting pollinator surveys and bio-blitzes. These are fun, hands-on activities where teams work together to identify as many species of plants, pollinators and insects as possible within a set time frame.
  • Restoring urban green spaces – Bring life back to neglected urban areas by removing weeds and invasive species and planting native vegetation
  • Interactive learning -Throughout the day, expert Postcode Gardeners will share practical tips on gardening, sustainability, and climate resilience that attendees can take back to work and home.
  • Supporting healing – Create spaces that help residents of North Kensington on their journey towards healing the hurt of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

Why Garden with us?

The UK is now one of the most nature-depleted nations in the world. Friends of the Earth research shows that 20% of people in England live in nature-deprived areas. This is not only devastating for ecosystems, but it has a very real impact on people’s mental and physical health. By choosing to a team volunteering day with us, your company ensures that greening efforts in North Kensington continue to thrive while aligning with sustainability goals.

Our volunteer Gardening programme is an initiative created by Friends of the Earth in partnership with The Co-operative Bank, and delivered by local partners. The initiative supports nature-depleted communities to hire expert Postcode Gardeners to bring back nature. We work with local residents to coordinate the greening plan for the postcode, do some gardening themselves, run weekly volunteer sessions and teach volunteers gardening skills so that everyone can dig in and create greener streets.

The Notting Dale project is delivered through the Westway Trust alongside our communities in North Kensington. Corporate volunteering days with businesses like yours are crucial in sustaining this project. Your contributions not only make an immediate impact on nature but also help generate the necessary income to keep this effort going for the long-term.

Programme Fee

Westway Trust has recently made the difficult decision to introduce a fee for corporate volunteering gardening days. We understand that releasing staff from their usual roles is already an investment for your organisation. However, these days also require significant resources from our charity team to plan, prepare, and deliver activities safely, while ensuring your employees have a rewarding and well-supported experience.

Our charges also make some of our Gardening projects free for local residents financially sustainable.
