Supplementary School Archive Exhibition

For generations, supplementary schools have been a vital cornerstone of North Kensington—empowering young people, enriching education, and strengthening the wider community. Now, for the very first time, we invite you to step into their remarkable legacy.

As the inaugural public showcase of the Supplementary Schools Archive Project (part of the Westway Archive Project), this exhibition is a celebration of community heritage. Over the past year, we have worked hand-in-hand with local supplementary schools to help them build their own archives. Every piece on display has been chosen directly by the schools to represent the depth, continuity, and real-world impact of their work.

What’s on Display?

Spanning from the early 1990’s to the present day, the exhibition features a rich, community-curated collection of history:

  • Archival Records: Early constitutions, foundational newsletters, and handwritten documents.

  • Community in Action: Decades of photographs capturing classes, trips, and community life.

  • Student Excellence: Original exercise books, creative artwork, and awards.

  • Shared Memory: Commemorative pieces reflecting profound local history, including items connected to Grenfell.
