Portobello Green came alive on Wednesday 10 December as the community celebrated the annual Winter Tree Light Gathering, a free evening of light, music and festive celebration.
Visitors enjoyed performances and music from Samba Wednesday and our very own (newly formed) Westway Trust Choir, plus warm food and soup from Jada / Kaiso’s Street Food and yummy festive ice creams from Kensington Gardens Chocolateries. Community partners included The Space and Regarm Projects who offered free gifts, warm clothes and wellbeing items and gifts. There was also an artists corner was on display curated by Ron Best.
Artist Brian Okello (aka bambookidd) unveiled the Winter Forest Pillars Art Trail outside Portobello Green Arcade and the traders at Podobello also participated in a new Window Display Competition, with the winning design set to be showcased inside the Arcade.
New festoon lighting connected the PODs, Thorpe Close and the Arcade, enhancing the event’s atmosphere and the Tree Lighting Ceremony was the highlight of the night, along with the snow!
