Thursday 22 June 2023 is 'Windrush Day'; marking 75 years since the historic journey of HMT Empire Windrush and, importantly, the people that came to the UK, and made it their home.
Working with community partners, we want to celebrate the Windrush generation and their descendants' contributions to the vibrant culture and community of North Kensington.
We will co-host 'Windrush Day Celebration' event on Portobello Green on Thursday 22 June alongside community partners, particularly those serving the Caribbean community; providing Caribbean food, music, entertainment and activities, including an accessible traditional Soca dance activity.
We are now seeking expressions of interest from local performers, stall-holders and food traders to take part in the event. Being an event which celebrates the contribution of migration to modern UK society, we are particulraly interest in hearing from individuals or organisaitons who can showcase the ethnic diversity of North Kensington through food and music.
