Sound & Accoustic Engineer for Community Events

We’re seeking a qualified Sound and Acoustic Consultant to provide expert guidance on minimising noise disturbances to neighbouring residents during community events and activities held across our estate; specifically on Portobello Green and Portobello Market Canopy (Thorpe Close, W10 5XL).  

The consultant will support us in ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices for outdoor sound management. 

Scope of Work

The appointed consultant will advise on sound and acoustic considerations for outdoor venues and garden spaces across the Westway Trust estate. Key areas of support include:

  • Regulatory Guidance
    • Interpretation and application of relevant legislation and local authority requirements, including:
      • Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) regulations
      • Environmental Protection Act 1990
      • Noise Act 1996
      • Licensing Act 2003
  • Noise Mitigation Strategies
    • Recommendations for speaker placement, acoustic barriers, decibel thresholds, and real-time monitoring techniques.
    • Strategies to reduce sound spill and nuisance in residential areas.
  • Community & Environmental Considerations
    • Recommendations to minimise environmental impact and nuisance to local residents.
    • Support in balancing audience experience with crowd safety and emergency communication needs.

Deliverables

The successful consultant will be expected to provide:

  1. Tailored Noise & Equipment Management Plan
    • Specific to Westway Trust’s estate and event types.
  2. Equipment & Resource Recommendations
    • Including sound systems, monitoring tools, and power solutions.
  3. Post-Event Feedback & Reporting
    • Evaluation of sound performance and community impact

Consultant Profile Requirements

We are seeking a consultant with:

  • Strong knowledge of RBKC licensing and enforcement practices.
  • Proven experience in managing sound for outdoor and garden events.
  • Expertise in noise control, electrical safety, and community engagement.
