Call out for Community Exhibition Proposals

Celebrating 60 Years of Notting Hill Carnival  

Westway Trust is inviting local community groups, organisations, artists and Carnival participants to submit proposals for a unique community exhibition celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Notting Hill Carnival in Maxilla Walk. 

This exhibition will celebrate Carnival’s history, culture and community through creative installations designed by the community, for the community. 

We are looking for exhibitors to create an engaging, freestanding installation that tells a story about Carnival and its impact on our local community. 

What We Offer 

Successful applicants will receive: 

• £200 production grant towards materials and making costs
• A dedicated 3m x 3m exhibition space
• The opportunity to be part of the official 60th Anniversary Community Exhibition

What We’re Looking For 

We welcome proposals that celebrate: 

• The history of Notting Hill Carnival
• Community stories and memories
• Carnival arts and culture
• Sound systems, Mas, SteelPanor Calypso traditions 
• Costume making
• Music and dance heritage
• Youth participation
• Local people who have shaped Carnival
• The future of Carnival

We encourage imaginative, interactive and accessible ideas that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. 

Exhibition Requirements 

Your installation must: 

• Fit within a 3m x 3m space
• Be freestanding (no fixing into the ground or surrounding structures)
• Be safe and suitable for a public outdoor event
• Be easy to transport
• Be collapsible for storage
• Be designed so it can be reused for future exhibitions where possible
• Be installed by your own team on the evening of Saturday 29 August 2026
• Be removed following the event

There is no mains electricity available. 

If your installation requires power, you must provide your own safe battery-powered solution or approved generator. 

You may include ambient background music as part of your installation, provided it does not interfere with neighbouring exhibits.

Design 

Please include: 

• Sketch, drawing, moodboardor reference images 
• Approximate dimensions
• Materials you plan to use

Installation Plan 

Tell us: 

• How the installation will be assembled
• How many people will install it
• Estimated installation time
• How it will be dismantled and stored afterwards

Budget 

Provide a simple breakdown showing how you intend to use the £200 grant.

• Community connection
• Celebration of Carnival heritage
• Creativity and originality
• Practicality and safety
• Sustainability and potential for future reuse

No previous exhibition experience is necessary.
