This is a beginners course open to anyone with a video recording device and an interest in filming and editing.
You will need to be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and be prepared to take part in group discussion. You should be happy using digital technology including your own smartphone, tablet or video camera.
In this course you will learn how to create your own video content. Working through pre-production and planning, shooting and editing, the resulting video will be uploaded to WestWayTV Youtube channel to share your story. We’ll explore your ideas and ways to structure a script using all the elements at your disposal from interviews, graphics, stills and music. After shooting your footage you will learn how to edit a video sequence and export your project as an uploadable/sharable piece of media.

- Shooting Interviews/Vox Pops
- Using available lighting
- Using the inShot app to edit on your device. Alternative applications can be suggested
or used if you have a prefered one.
- How to share and upload your film
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Write a script
- use the automatic mode of your camera to record video
- list the main elements you can use to create a video e.g footage, graphics, text, stills.
- Conduct and shoot an interview
- Use inshot to edit a basic sequence
- Produce a piece of material to upload
How will I be taught? What kind of activities will I be doing?
You will be taught using a range of techniques including short lectures, demonstrations,
practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual assistance.
What will I need to bring?
You will need to bring your own device capable of filming video and audio with you to
the class if you have one. Also, an idea of what you intend to make a film about or the
style of film you’d like to make.
Will I get feedback? What could I do next?
You will receive individual and group feedback from your teacher, and your fellow students. You
can use the skills developed on this course for more advanced learning or to create your own
video content and upload directly yourself.
