Training

The Community Sports Team links with other interested partners to provide sport and fitness training courses for local people where appropriate. These courses range from governing body sports awards and fitness National Vocational Qualifications to Sport Coach UK short courses.

The Trust also has a policy of training local young people to become sport leaders, fitness instructors and facility management staff.

Apprenticeships

Currently the Trust has three apprentice posts in the sport and fitness department. The posts are at Portobello Green Fitness Club, at theĀ Westway Sports Centre and in the Sports Development team. The apprentices work 20 hours a week with the Trust and attend Kensington and Chelsea College one day a week to study for NVQ awards in operational management and coaching. The target age range for the apprentices is 16-21 years.

Sports Coach UK courses

From time to time the Trust arranges Sport Coach UK short courses at the Westway Sports Centre in partnership with other organisations including Central London Proactive. These courses will be advertised locally and on this website as and when they are happening.

Other courses

The Trust is also committed to organising other short training courses for its own sports staff and staff from partner organisations. These courses are aimed particularly at coaches wishing to work in the school or community environment. It is also proposed to run a coach development day at the Westway in 2010.
