The Partnership for Supplementary Schools in Kensington and Chelsea
Supplementary Schools, run by community groups, provide classes for children after school and at weekends. Over 30 groups run schools in Kensington & Chelsea. Some give general support with schoolwork - English, Maths and Science are the most popular subjects. Some schools run youth programmes with activities in sport and arts. Some also run lessons in community languages, and teach children about their culture and history.
Any supplementary school in the borough of Kensington & Chelsea can join The Partnership for Supplementary Schools. The Trust chairs the Partnership for Supplementary Schools in Kensington and Chelsea, and the Supplementary Schools' Co-ordinator Val Patterson is based at 1, Thorpe Close.
The Co-ordinator organises special events where groups can learn together, including an annual Science Tournament and visits from poets and storytellers. For further details contact Val Patterson, the Co-ordinator on 020 8962 5739 or CLICK HERE TO EMAIL VAL PATTERSON

Sharing information between supplementary and weekday schools
Mainstream schools work with us in various ways, sometimes referring children who need help, sometimes on partnership projects, sometimes just by handing out certificates at assembly as a way of building self-esteem and showing respect for community groups.
We encourage parents to send a standard letter asking their child's teacher to share information with us.
Teachers fill in a simple form giving us information they think we will find useful (such as any special targets for the child, the name of the teacher and of the head of year and the date of the next parents evening).
We only ask teachers to spend a couple of minutes to fill in this form and give it to the child. Some will then arrange to meet us and discuss the work we are both doing with the child.
To keep workload down we use this form selectively. But if we can share targets, it really helps us plan a programme for each child.
