Westway Development Trust is a Charitable Trust, in the form of a company limited by guarantee no. 6475436. This means that we are a registered charity, regulated by the Charity Commission no. 1123127. We are also a member of the Development Trust Association.
As a charitable trust, we were entrusted with assets when we were formed in the 1970s. These assets are contained in the parcel of land underneath and beside the motorway as it crosses North Kensington.
We then made promises to safeguard and use those assets to deliver a programme of improvements to the lives of the residents within the benefit area, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. These promises, and the programme that we are entrusted to deliver, are set out in our charitable objectives.
Our Trustees are the guardians of these assets, and ensure that the Trust delivers on its promises. One of the duties of the Trustees is to appoint an Executive Management Team to manage the operations of the Trust on a day to day basis.
In order to be able to function as a social enterprise, the trust is a company limited by guarantee (like most charities). The shares are held by the Trustees and our Member Organisations.
